An Afternoon with Mademoiselle Chanel

For those who know Chanel the brand, they see it as a symbol of elegance and luxury. For those who know Coco Chanel history, the woman behind the brand they see it as much more. It is a symbol of versatility, empowerment, and modernization. A woman who was ahead of her time, with each step she took she broke barriers. Her traumatic childhood was the source of her strength and inspiration, that would later give us the most emblematic designs in the history of fashion. She freed the woman from the corset, from long and uncomfortable dresses and non-functional hairstyles. Thanks to this, a fashion revolution started in which comfort was the new norm and all the women of the time followed. This influence is seen more than 50 years later in designs around the world, in which every day more and more versatility and freedom of movement are sought – two characteristic of Coco Chanel designs.

In the panel 3 great Panamanian fashion designers – Helene Breebaart, Federico Visuetti, and Jaime Luna explained why what Coco Chanel did was so iconic. They told us about her life and how she laid the foundations for the designers who came after her.

The exhibition of “The artistic influences of the avant-garde of the Paris of Coco Chanel in Panama” gives us a glimpse of Chanel’s Paris and the worldwide influence that this movement had along with its top representatives being some of them Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Oscar Domínguez. Although in the panel they also addressed how Latin American trends has strongly influenced European fashion, we can not forget how the modernization of women’s clothing created by Coco Chanel, as well as the new artistic trends brought by the other artists of the era completely changed the history of art and fashion worldwide

In the exhibition, you can see original pieces of the life of Coco, the woman behind the brand and other avant-garde artists of the time that had a close relationship with her. It will be available until May 20 at the Canal Museum.

Coco Chanel, para los que conocen la marca es símbolo de elegancia y lujo. Para los que conocen su historia es símbolo de versatilidad, empoderamiento y modernidad. Una mujer que estuvo adelantada a su época, con cada paso que daba rompió barreras. Su traumática infancia fue la fuente de su fuerza e inspiración que mas tarde nos brindaría los diseños mas emblemáticos de la historia de la moda. Libró a la mujer del corset, de largos e incómodos vestidos y peinados no funcionales. Gracias a esto inicio una revolución en la moda en la cual todas las mujeres de la época la usaron de inspiración. Esta influencia se ve mas de 50 años después en los diseños alrededor del mundo, en los cuales cada día mas y mas se busca la versatilidad y la libertad de movimiento – dos elementos característicos de los diseños de Coco Chanel.

En el conversatorio 3 grandes de la moda panameña – Helene Breebaart, Federico Visuetti y Jaime Luna, nos dieron a conocer el porque de la grandeza de Coco Chanel. Nos hablaron de su vida y de cómo ella sentó las bases a nivel mundial para los diseñadores que vinieron después de ella.

La exhibición de “Las influencias artísticas de los vanguardistas del París de Coco Chanel en Panamá” nos da un vistazo del París de Chanel y la proyección mundial que este movimiento tuvo junto a sus máximos representantes siendo algunos de ellos Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso, Alexander Calder, Oscar Domínguez. Aunque en el conversatorio se hablo de cómo la moda latinoamericana ha influido fuertemente en la moda europea, no se puede olvidar cómo la modernización del vestuario de la mujer realizada por Coco Chanel, al igual que las nuevas tendencias artísticas traídas por los demás artistas de la época cambiaron por completo la historia del arte y la moda a nivel mundial

En la exhibición encontrarás piezas originales de la vida de Coco la mujer detrás de la marca y los demás vanguardistas de la época. La misma estará hasta el 20 de mayo en el Museo del Canal.
