Thank God is Friday! Right?! In ‘Just because its Friday’ you will see random topics each week, which will be discussed quickly. Today I will talk about TV shows and movies styling.
My friends know how much I love to watch TV and go to the movies. If someone asks me what TV show I’m currently watching he or she will get a LONG list. After reading this interview done to Lyn Paolo, Scandal’s customer designer I began to think how important the wardrobe was on TV shows and movies. We usually think that contemporary shows don’t need the same effort when it comes to the development of a character wardrobe as a period show would need. The truth is that it needs the same amount of work or even more to be able to transmit an idea. Stylist have to consider a long list of things such as the character personality, its current situation, how the writers want him/her to be perceived by the audience and more before deciding what their “closet” will look like.
For example, in the current season of Scandal we see how Olivia Pope went from wearing a neutral palette of strong pants suits, which were a symbol of power, to bright colors and dresses. This change was a reflection of her character position and new mentality. On ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, Diana Prince (Wonder Woman) wardrobe always included some type of golden cuffs or choker making allusion to her Greek mythology Amazonian woman origin. We cannot forget to mention Sex and the City and how the styling of the show done by the incredible Patricia Field became as iconic as the show.
Clothing is more than a piece of fabric. On screen as in real life it is an important way of portraying individuality. Every character is a blank canvas and believe it or not, what they wear give us a better understanding of themselves.

Estoy tan feliz de que ya sea viernes! En este segmento les traeré diversos temas cada semana. Hoy les estaré hablando del styling para la pantalla chica y grande.
Mis amigos saben cuanto me encanta ver programas de televisión y películas. Si alguien me pregunta cual es mi programa favorito les daría una lista BIEN larga. Después de haber leído una entrevista realizada a Lyn Paolo, la estilista de uno de mis programas favoritos, Scandal, empecé a pensar sobre la importancia del styling para los programas de tv y películas. Muchos piensan que si el marco es en la actualidad no se necesita tanto esfuerzo en lo que concierne el vestuario como el que se requeriría para uno que se desarrolle en el Siglo XVIII o en los años 60. La verdad es que necesita la misma cantidad de trabajo y a veces más para poder transmitir la idea. Los estilistas tienen que tomar en cuenta muchos factores tales como la personalidad del personaje, su situación actual, como el escritor quiere que el o ella sean vistos por la audiencia y mas antes de decidir cual será su guardarropa.
Por ejemplo, en la temporada actual de Scandal vemos como Olivia Pope pasa de usar solo colores neutros y conjuntos de pantalón los cuales eran un símbolo de poder a colores vivos y vestidos. Este cambio fue un reflejo de la nueva mentalidad del personaje. En ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, los vestuarios de Diana Price (La Mujer Maravilla) siempre incluían piezas doradas tales como brazaletes y gargantillas. Estas eran un reflejo de su origen que remonta a la mujer amazónica de la mitología griega. No podemos olvidarnos de ‘Sex and the City’ y como el styling realizado por la increíble Patricia Field pasó a la historia.
La ropa es mas que un pedazo de tela. En la pantalla al igual que en la vida real es una forma importante de reflejar la individualidad de una persona. Cada personaje es un lienzo, y lo que usen nos ayuda a entenderlos mejor.
